ScottyCOn 2025

Creating appealing graphics to promote a student-run convention at Carnegie Mellon University.

[Graphic design, Branding]

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Figma
Time: September 2024 - March 2025

As graphic design chair of ScottyCon, an anime and games convention that takes place at Carnegie Mellon University, I aimed to refine the visual style of the event’s design, in order to have a more cohesive graphic identity. I led a small team to create promotional material, such as event signage, newsletters, social media posts, and an informational packet for sponsors.

Signage

For our event, I created multiple templates that could be reused to create a recognizable visual system, so that if passerby briefly glanced over, they would quickly be able to understand that the signs were for ScottyCon events. These signs directed event-goers to specific locations and provided information about the events happening in each room. (Illustrations on designs by @kypsil on Instagram)

Social Media Posts

The event’s social media posts were more visually varied, each custom tailored to each context. For instance, the post with the blue background (shown below) was promoted at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, so the designs for that occasion were made slightly more formal.

Newsletter

I redesigned ScottyCon’s newsletter to align with our updated design direction. Inspired by traditional newspapers, the newsletter is structured into sections, separated by lines. I aimed to make the newsletter easier for readers to quickly understand the focus and call to action for each section.
